The pathway overgrowth is crossing the path, pushing fencing over and nettles and bramble onto path. Not good for when walking pets. Cannot pass people have to wait and pass due to overgrown needs etc. Large willow now over hanging the pathway.

• The vast majority of hedges are privately owned and maintained. Privately maintained hedges are assessed based upon an inspection. If the hedge is deemed to be above an actionable level, we will try to establish who the land owner is to ask them to undertake the work themselves. We give a reasonable time frame to comply with our request. If necessary, we can serve a notice upon the land/ property owner requiring them to cut the hedge back for encroachment and/ or safety. Hedge maintenance should be undertaken outside the bird nesting season which runs from 1st March to 30th September. However, Notices issued to rectify safety issues override the bird nesting season. This process can take a number of weeks due to the land registry requirements and associated timescales of serving notice under the Highways Act so the hedge may remain overgrown for some time. Following on from my report submitted on 28th August to which I haven't yet had any response, my children were walking to school yesterday morning and my eldest was hit by a car's side mirror as it passed him. He was walking on the path at the time. The car did not stop to check that he was ok. The paths are so narrow in places, and if two cars are trying to pass at the same time, they both have to pull right over to their left. This has happened to my husband on a previous occasion also. Can traffic control and new paths be considered for the safety of the residents in Haughton Village? Following up on the flooding issue, if nothing is done to prevent the problems from the heavy rain and blocked drains and no kerbs and our property suffers any sort of water damage because of it, we will take legal action to claim repair costs from the Council.

I am a resident on the Honeysuckle & Coppice Green Development. Recently, new safety measures were introduced on Coppice Green by way of the installation of sineage, a reduced speed limit, speed bumps and speed tables. I walk up and down that road at least 3 times a day and whilst some traffic are observing the new measures, the majority of vehicles are not. The measures introduced, in my opinion, are wholly inadequate as vehicles can ride the bumps and tables at a much higher speed than the regulatory 20mph, and constantly do. The footpath is narrow in places due to the hedging having overgrown and many parents, children, dog walkers etc, use this footpath. Coppice Green Lane itself is not particularly wide, meaning traffic, when passing each other in opposite directions, is often very close to the footpath The traffic that fails to observe the law speeds past pedestrians and a tragic accident is merely a blink of an eye away. This road houses a school and a football club and, therefore, there are many children and adults using the footpath. It seems to me that there is a complete lack of understanding of this road, modern cars and the driving attitudes of many who wantonly disregard the Speed Limits with little or no fear of any enforcement measures What a waste of Tax Payers money installing these measures which appear to have done little to resolve the issues that warranted the measures in the first place. There are 3 raised utilities access covers that are above the road surface so when any heavy vehicle drives over them they cause where I live to shake and cause me lack of sleep each time a large vehicle drives over them. It seems that there has been an effort to address this, but the surface around these covers is just not acceptable, it creates way too much noise.

The street side of the boundary hedge around the green on bluebell way is massively overgrown. It’s made up mostly of hawthorn so is spiky and is almost fully across the pavement in parts. It needs urgently cutting back before someone hurts themself on a spike (there are many young children on the estate that wouldn’t be aware of the risk to their eyes from the spikes. The estate maintenance company are responsible for the grass side but the council are responsible for the street side. Weeds are also overgrown and messy in the gutters and the grass verges on Springhill remain uncut.

Jack Edwards has made the decision to make the move back to Ludlow CC, the club where it all started for him as a youngster. Since signing for the club as a teenager back in 2012, Jack has been a key player for the 1st X1, and without doubt one of the most popular members at the club, during a period where the club has always competed at a really high level. The Shifnal Women’s team have completed a remarkable campaign, winning the Cricket Shropshire Midweek League and doing so in the most emphatic fashion — unbeaten all season . Their title was sealed in style with a superb victory away at Shelton in the final match of the campaign. Shelton’s reply never truly gathered momentum. Going through an entire season undefeated is an outstanding achievement — a reflection of the squad’s commitment, talent, and togetherness throughout the summer. A huge congratulations to Will, Chloe, and everyone involved in delivering another fantastic season for Shifnal Cricket Club. Well played, Shifnal Women — champions and unbeaten.

We are all encouraged as gardeners to allow a patch of wilderness in our garden - to allow the weeds to grow with the flowers, to encourage diversity of plants and animals to grow together, rather than weeding out the bad from the good seed we so carefully planted. Jesus told the parable of the wheat and the weeds growing together, that we are all a mix of good and bad, capable of extraordinary kindness and generosity but also of selfishness and impatience. It’s been a tough year for gardeners, too much rain, then not enough and shrivelling heat demanding constant watering. Jesus told the parable of the sower, who throws seed everywhere, on paths, rocks and soil with reckless abandon. Much of it gets eaten, withered, chocked and lost, but for all that falls on the good soil it produces an amazing harvest. This week we reflect on God’s generosity and fruitfulness for our whole community.

Sometimes we make faith too complicated, with doctrines and theologies, church rules and practices. It can feel overwhelming, and can be off-putting. Jesus message was essentially very simple and from the heart. Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

On June 19th Shifnal Cricket Club was delighted to welcome Mark Pritchard, Shropshire’s local MP , to the ground this afternoon. Vice Chair Neil Lorimer and Adrian Collins , Head of Development, were very pleased to host Mark and guide him around the ground. The ground was already set out for junior coaching, creating a fantastic backdrop for the visit. But Jesus said that offering a cup of cold water is a deeply Christian act, showing the value of small deeds as much as heroic ones. It is an act rooted in hospitality, and the building of relationships. Jesus calls us to recognise his presence in one another, especially those in need. When we give a cup of water, we are giving it to him.

“Go and make disciples of all nations” was indeed a great commission! Sharing our faith can raise doubts and uncertainties - "I don't know enough, I haven't studied, what if they ask me about.... ? The disciples Jesus chose were ordinary people living ordinary lives. Sometimes our own doubts can actually become a bridge to relating to those around us at home, at work, and in our community, Perhaps, it is not about going to the ends of the earth, but about meeting people where we are, walking alongside, sharing our lives with all its mess, muddle, doubts and uncertainties as we journey together, growing in faith, held together in God’s love. What makes for a good community? Neighbours knowing and trusting one another! Good communication, across different cultures, age groups and languages! The Holy Spirit breaks open locked doors, gives confidence to frightened disciples, and the gift of language to share the good news of God’s love. Shifnal CC Women’s 1st XI got their Midweek Hardball League campaign off to the perfect start with a 30-run victory over Wellington Women in their first match of the season. Opening batters Katie Seager and Esther Hurford gave Shifnal the ideal platform, both retiring after impressive innings of 30 and 33 respectively. Wellington’s reply started positively, but the introduction of Hurford into the attack proved crucial as she removed the dangerous opener caught behind. One of the races I love in the Olympics is the Relay, when a team run, passing the baton forward to their next runner. Each person wants to run their best race, but they depend on each other, and can only win through being a team. This week we remember Jesus ascension into heaven, where he passes the baton of his Good News to his disciples. We are like those disciples, trusted by Jesus to be witnesses of his life in our lives. So many fictional characters are orphans! Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Pippi Longstocking! There is something in the vulnerability of being orphaned that draws us to the character. When Jesus was speaking to the disciples about being taken from them He promised not to leave them orphaned, but said he would send them another advocate, another helper, the Spirit of Truth. Everyone at Shifnal Cricket Club is sad and upset to hear the news of Jim’s passing and wish to pass on our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. At the cricket club, Jim was behind the project to install the boundary fence, advertising boards and seating, and the striped outfield we are now accustomed to seeing on a regular basis. Jim was also one of the fab 5 volunteers who helped significantly with the new pavilion build and a photo in the pavilion of the group, and the building will always honour his name. Valentines day saw the launch of our Tearoom refurbishment fundraising appeal - as we set about totally revamping the unused area so it can be ready for the upcoming season. The tearoom stands on what was once a fenced play area for a nursery, based at the old pavilion. Until 2019, it hosted cricket teas, lunches, training sessions, community events, and served as a base during the new pavilion reconstruction. Work is already underway with hours of work already under taken by a team of club volunteers headed up by fundraising lead Chris Dirkin. Saturday 3 rd May 2025, AWAY MATCH - Shifnal 3rds Vs Bomere Heath 2nd XI : Shifnal Cricket Clubs away match on Saturday saw a record-breaking performance by Tom Gough, scoring 103 not out helping the Shifnal team reach 288 for 8, Tom then went on to take 5 wickets, helping Shifnal bowl the Bomere Heath team out for 193 and winning the match. This is possibly the first time in the clubs 176-year history that a player has scored over 100 runs and taken 5 wickets in the same match.
