Shropshire is a unitary authority, so waste collection sits with Shropshire Council, not the Town Council.

Runs the (chargeable) collection of large household items such as furniture and appliances.

Owns, maintains and pays the energy for 300+ street lights at various locations across Shifnal (contractor currently E.ON).
The Town Council publishes a list and a map of the lights it owns on its Street Lighting page. If your light isn't on that list, it's almost certainly Shropshire Council's — report it there instead. Not sure? Email the Town Council and they'll point you to the right place.

A dangerous tree overhanging the highway can be reported to Shropshire Council, who may require the owner to act. Trees with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or in a conservation area need planning consent before work — check with Shropshire Council planning.

Shifnal Town Council is a statutory consultee — it comments on applications and can object, but it does NOT make the decision. The decision is Shropshire Council's. You can view and comment on applications via the Shropshire Council planning portal.

Investigates development carried out without permission or in breach of conditions.
Report a suspected breach of planning control using the council's online enforcement form. The council doesn't investigate anonymous reports, but keeps complainants' details confidential.

Checks building work against building regulations for safety and standards.
Apply online via a 'full plans' or 'building notice' application. Building control can instead be carried out by an approved private inspector rather than the council.

Bills and collects council tax, including discounts, exemptions and banding queries.
Your council tax bill includes a small precept for Shifnal Town Council, which funds Town Council services. Property band appeals go to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), not the council.

Adult social care has its own statutory complaints procedure, separate from corporate complaints, and can escalate to the Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman. In an emergency where someone is at immediate risk, call 999.
